Texas Pizzeria Team Turns the Tables on Armed Robber
The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Richard Curtis, has been charged with aggravated robbery.
The incident began around 7 p.m. when Curtis entered the pizzeria and approached an employee, passing them a note that read, "Don't say s—t, empty the drawer." Curtis then revealed a firearm tucked into his waistband, according to the affidavit.
What Did The Employees Do?
Instead of complying, the employee acted quickly, grabbing Curtis and putting him in a chokehold while another employee called the police. As the struggle continued, the restaurant's manager intervened and managed to take Curtis' gun from his waistband.
The manager allegedly attempted to fire the weapon at Curtis, but the gun malfunctioned. Undeterred, the manager used the gun's handle to strike Curtis multiple times. At one point, the manager retrieved a knife from the kitchen and asked Curtis if he would prefer prison or death. Curtis then stopped resisting and waited for the authorities to arrive.
One employee was injured during the scuffle and later treated for a head wound, according to the report. The police are continuing to investigate the incident, and no further details have been provided at this time.
Both the Austin Police Department and Marco's Pizza have been contacted for additional comments.
