WATCH: Mayflies Swarm Iowa High School Baseball Game On Biblical Level
They're not about to sit on the bench.
If you've been pretty much anywhere in the last few weeks, there's a good chance you've run into a gazillion mayflies. They've been so all over my car in the mornings that you can barely even see it.
And now, Iowa mayflies decided they want to enjoy the summer pastime of baseball. And at a game in New Albin, they did just that.
It was Monday night at the Shooky Fink Field, according to KCCI, where the Kee High School baseball team plays (they're the Hawks, by the way, not the Locusts). Opponent Clayton Ridge coach Casey Zarr said the mayflies swarm showed up late in the game and they were "horrendous".
Looks like that:
And because we live in the age of social media, obviously someone at the game recorded it. Honestly, the video looks even more like a biblical plague scene.
Watch it:
Mayflies are annoying but remember, they have very short lifespans and they have one goal. They only have enough time to mate, which is about a day above ground. Baby mayflies can survive in the water for up to a year.
If you really hate mayflies, you can tweak their attraction to light, so use yellow lightbulbs instead of white ones and/or keep your curtains drawn at night.
Kee won the game, by the way, beating Clayton Ridge 9-1.
