Moline's sesquicentennial celebration this weekend will cause closures on areas of River Drive.

Those closures will start tonight (Wednesday) and will last through Sunday.

The 3-day sesquicentennial celebration closures will impact the areas of:

  • River Drive at 55th St (Rock Island)
  • River Drive at 6th St
  • River Drive at 17th St
  • River Drive at 19th St

The Facebook post from the city of Moline says that there are signs up to let you know about the closure. The closure starts Wednesday night to set up for the event. You can see the city's map above for detour routes while the closures are in effect.

According to the post, if you're headed westbound on River Drive, you're asked to go left on 15th to 4th Avenue, then continue on it until turning right on 12th and taking 12th to River Drive where you can keep on your merry way headed west. If you're going eastbound on River Drive, you should take 12th Street to 6th Avenue and then rejoin River Drive at 15th Street.

About The Event

Moline's sesquicentennial celebration will feature music, a historic walking tour of downtown Moline, vendors, and food. The event is free to attend. As for the city's history: Moline became a town in 1843, and got its name from 'Mill Town' or 'City of Mills'. Not long after, in 1848, a young man named John Deere moved to Moline and the rest is history. You can keep up with the latest updates from Moline's 150th birthday as they gear up to celebrate at moline150.com.
