Illinois Coworkers Thought They Won $350 From Lottery. It Was Actually $350,000.
Sometimes you really did win the lottery with your coworkers.
We all have our awesome work besties that keep us sane and make you feel like you did win the coworker lottery. But did you actually win the lottery with them?
Illinois Lottery says that coworkers Randy and April in Ashton had been playing the lottery together for years, always on the faith that they'll win it one day. And January 7th was that day.
Randy had bought the Lucky Day Lotto ticket at a Jewel-Osco in West Chicago when he was dropping his wife off at a doctor's appointment. Randy and April had agreed to split any lottery winnings and it paid off. April told the Lottery:
We were in total disbelief. At first, Randy thought we’d only won $350 and joked about buying more tickets. When I checked the app and saw it was $350,000, everything changed. Everyone at work started giving us high fives and congratulating us.
There's no word on where exactly Randy and April work, of course.
This deserves an office pizza party, right?
Both Randy and April said that they're going to put their winnings to property investments, retirement savings, and a vacation. Randy said his wife wants to go to Ireland but he doesn't fly so he might get a tattoo instead.
For selling the winning ticket, the Jewel-Osco will get 1% of the amount, which is $3,500.
Lucky Day Lotto is an Illinois-only game that has 2 daily drawings at 12:40 p.m. and 9:22 p.m. Jackpots start at $100,000.
