Is It Legal To Eat Dogs And Cats In Iowa And Illinois?
If you watched the 2024 Presidential Debate on ABC Tuesday night, you may have an idea as to why this question is even being asked.
During the debate between Republican candidate and the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, and Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump brought up an incident in Springfield, Ohio where body camera footage shows a police officer questioning a woman about eating a cat.
The debate was hosted by ABC and moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis. Following Trump talking about the Springfield cat eating issue, Muir pointed out that ABC did contact the city manager of Springfield where they said there was no evidence of that incident.
With the most controversial topic still trending the next day, it only makes sense to ask the question we've all been wondering: is it legal to eat cats and dogs in Iowa, Illinois, and across America?
Is It Legal To Eat Cats And Dogs?
As you might think, it is not legal -- or is illegal -- to eat cats and dogs in Iowa, Illinois, and across America.
The Dog and Cat Meat Trade Prohibition Act makes the ‘transportation, delivery, possession, and slaughter of dogs and cats for human consumption' illegal across all 50 states.
It's illegal in Iowa because the state has never approved a facility for the slaughtering of cats or dogs. Illinois has several laws protecting animals along with the federal act mentioned above.
