Mountain Dew, Froot Loops, it's all gonna be different.

We've all gone to the grocery store hungry or in a snacky mood and pick up something that probably wasn't on our list. Because our souls need those cookies or chips, right?

Earlier this week, the FDA announced plans to "phase out" some dyes that are currently allowed in foods. It's part of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s plan to "Make America Healthy Again". Another part of the plan from Secretary Kennedy is to remove fluoride from America's public water supply, which is raising controversy.

What's kinda weird is that the FDA is not straight up banning these dyes, but they do have an "understanding" with food companies, according to Kennedy.

The FDA says they're revoking authorization of 2 synthetic food colorings that are typically in fruit and meat and working with companies to stop using 6 other synthetic dyes by the end of next year.

The dyes impacted are:

  • Red No. 3
  • Red No. 40
  • Yellow No. 5
  • Yellow No. 6
  • Blue No. 1
  • Blue No. 2
  • Green No. 3
  • Citrus Red No. 2
  • Orange B

According to TODAY, the plan is to transition companies from using petroleum-based food dyes to natural alternatives like carrot or beet juice.

The phase-out of these dyes will be evident in snacks you know and love at the grocery store. You'll notice they're not as brightly colored and if they are colored with something natural, they may taste different.
