It was just yesterday that I posted in this space about a vegetable product recall that has now been classified as a Class-1 recall, which is the FDA's most serious category of the three categories they have for food product recalls.

A Class-1 recall is "a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death."

That particular recall is due to concerns over listeria contamination, which can be very serious and potentially deadly for kids, the elderly, and those who are immune-compromised. It can also cause extremely serious consequences for pregnant women and their unborn children.

This recall of 84 tons of frozen chicken is also a Class-1 recall, but for a different dangerous reason. These two things just don't belong together:

So There's Your Problem--Metal Wire And Chicken Nuggets Are Just A Bad Pairing, And You Really Should Avoid Consuming Them

That's why Perdue Foods LLC is recalling more than 167,171 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets and chicken tenders due to concerns the products are contaminated by a foreign object, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The recall began with customers reaching out to Perdue to let them know that metal wire had been found inside the chicken in purchased packages. Fortunately, at this point there have been no reported injuries, but Perdue has launched a recall due to "possible contamination by metal wire."

Just like the Class-1 recall on vegetables, this recall is also being classified as Class-1 because of the possibility of a negative impact on health or even death.

Let's Get To What You Need To Look For In Your Freezer At Home

And, as is usually the case in these recalls, you're urged to throw the products away or return them to your place of purchase for a full refund. More information on that is available at the Perdue website.

According to the USDA's FSIS website, here's what you should be looking for:

  • 22-oz. (1.38-lbs.) vacuum-sealed plastic packages containing "PERDUE Simply Smart ORGANICS Breaded CHICKEN BREAST NUGGETS" with Best If Used By date of "03 23 25" represented on the back of the package.
  • 29-oz. (1.81-lbs.) vacuum-sealed plastic packages containing "PERDUE CHICKEN BREAST TENDERS with Best If Used By date of "03 23 25" represented on the back of the package.
  • 22-oz. (1.38-lbs.) vacuum-sealed packages containing "BUTCHERBOX Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets" with Best If Used By date of "03 23 25" represented on the back of the package.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number "P-33944" on the back of the package. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide and sold online directly to consumers.
