It's hard to deny that something odd is happening over Illinois and I'm not referring to UFO's or at least not in the traditional way you might think. I've come across multiple maps which show hundreds of sightings of a strange winged creature known as 'mothman' over Illinois.

The 'mothman' is a humanoid-like creature that was first spotted over Point Pleasant, West Virginia just prior to a bridge collapse disaster in the 1960's. Unsolved Mysteries Volume 4, Episode 5, “The Mothman Revisited,” is all about this infamous creature. I lost count of how many Illinois residents were interviewed about their encounters with this creature. Many claimed post traumatic stress syndrome after they saw it and some refuse to leave their homes at night. These are not isolated cases, either. There's a map shared on the Chicago sub-Reddit documenting more than 100 'mothman' sightings in the Chicagoland area alone.

This is the original version of the map where you can view each of the Illinois sightings including details of what the witnesses claim they saw.

The 'mothman' sightings over Illinois seemed to increase exponentially since 2017. Some have tried to explain away these encounters as great blue herons who's habitat has been destroyed over time. I have no doubt that can explain some of these weird encounters, but not all. What are all these Illinois residents seeing and what does it mean? Some believe the 'mothman' only appears in areas that are about to experience a disaster. Does this mean there's a doomed event in Illinois' future? The truth is out there (or up there).
