A Mexican restaurant in Davenport that had to close after a fire is making a comeback.

Abarrotes Carrillo has announced that they're getting ready to reopen. The Mexican restaurant is located at 903 W. 3rd Street in Davenport.

They didn't have an easy 2021. Last December, a fire significantly damaged their building.

The cause of the fire was determined to be a commercial stove on the first floor that was too close to a wall, which caused heat to move from the stove's top burners into a wall cavity, according to KWQC. No one was injured in the fire. Since then, the restaurant has been closed with no projected reopening and a GoFundMe was created to help the Carrillo family in the aftermath of the fire.

Now, progress is coming along on Abarrotes Carrillo's new building and they're getting ready to open their doors again. Their exact reopening date is TBA at the moment due to "an issue that is out of our control", according to their Facebook post.
